Hangar Survivors

Two players, one keyboard, endless waves. Get a friend, pick your classes, and see how far you get.

Heads up: this game is played with a keyboard by two people at one computer. It has no touch controls.

About

Needs a physical keyboard: it is built for two people sitting at the same computer. Playing alone? Let a bot take the second seat.

A top-down arena survivor for two people at one keyboard, in the spirit of Brotato. You are locked in a dark industrial hangar, the doors are welded shut, and mutated things get in wave after wave. Survive as long as you can. A boss shows up every fifth wave.

Pick one of ten classes each — a slow tank with a shield charge, a scout who lobs grenades, an engineer who drops turrets, a medic who heals in a circle, a pyro, a sniper, a brawler, a gunslinger, a trapper and a hacker with an EMP. Weapons fire by themselves; you position, dodge and use your special. Between waves there is a shop: each of you has your own scrap and your own panel, and you can hand money and weapons to each other. Buy two of the same weapon and they combine into a stronger one. Stats show exactly what a purchase changes before you buy it.

Powers with real mechanics — exploding kills, chain lightning on crits, an energy shield, a second wind — unlock as you reach higher waves, as do three more arenas. Once in a while the shop rolls a legendary.

If one of you goes down mid-wave, you are out until the next wave starts and come back for free. If both go down in the same wave, the run is over. Best runs are saved in your browser.

Built from scratch: TypeScript, Canvas 2D, no engine. All the pixel art and sound is generated by code.

Controls

  • Player 1: W A S D move, Space dashes, Left Shift fires the special.
  • Player 2: arrow keys move, Right Shift dashes, Enter fires the special.
  • Weapons aim and fire on their own at the nearest enemy in line of sight. You only move, dash and time your special.
  • The special is aimed in the direction you last moved. Eight directions.
  • In menus the dash key confirms and the special key goes back. Esc pauses, M mutes.
  • Every key can be rebound under Controls. The defaults are spread across the keyboard to avoid ghosting.
  • Playing alone: press 1 or 2 on the class screen and a bot takes that seat.
  • Click the game once so it has keyboard focus, and use Fullscreen above it.
